Minden, IA: Partnering for Community Resilience

The tornadoes that ravaged Minden, IA, in April and May of this year left a trail of destruction that impacted hundreds of families and critically damaged the town’s infrastructure. Among the most pressing concerns in the aftermath was the complete destruction of Minden’s only water treatment plant, jeopardizing the community’s access to safe drinking water.
In response to this crisis, WaterSurplus mobilized our Rental and Service teams, joining forces with the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the Iowa Rural Water Association, and Baker Group. This collaborative effort underscores the power of partnership in times of need, combining expertise and resources to restore essential services and support the resilient spirit of Minden’s residents.
Swift Action for Immediate Relief
The urgency of the situation demanded swift and decisive action. Our trademark mission to provide an Availability Advantage ensured that our equipment was on the ground in Minden just days after the storm. A coalition of people worked tirelessly to install, connect, and start up the system. We are proud to report that this temporary system was brought online less than two weeks after the original plant was destroyed, providing Minden with a dependable source of clean water while plans for a new permanent water treatment facility are underway.
WaterSurplus’s pre-engineered water filtration systems are renowned for their efficiency and reliability, making them an ideal choice for emergency response scenarios. By swiftly deploying this technology, we have mitigated the impact of the water treatment plant’s destruction and ensured that Minden’s residents have continuous access to safe drinking water.
Looking Ahead: A Commitment to Long-Term Recovery
While the temporary water treatment system is a critical stopgap, our focus remains on supporting the long-term recovery of Minden. The development and installation of a new permanent water treatment plant is a complex process that requires careful planning and coordination. Our partnership with local and state agencies, as well as other key stakeholders, will continue to play a vital role in this endeavor.
We at WaterSurplus are committed to standing with the people of Minden throughout their recovery journey, providing not only technical expertise but also unwavering support. The resilience and determination of this community inspires us, and we are honored to have contributed to the restoration of essential services that will help Minden rebuild and thrive.
Gratitude and Moving Forward
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the Iowa Rural Water Association, the Baker Group, and all the other partners who have come together to address this crisis.
