Job Summary

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the planning, scheduling, and coordination of project work for all products including new, rental fleet, surplus assets, and investment recovery by working with all disciplines and customers to bring the projects to an equitable closure.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Main Duties

  • Manages all project reporting to clients and internal departments by providing regular PM report updates, internal project financial cost vs margin analysis for profit or loss reviews, and any post-mortem reviews of appropriate projects for successes or failures.
  • Reviews resource allocation to define available resources against project needs based on existing and potential future projects. The Sr. PM would use available sales information and forecasts and existing engineering and production resources to define this. Sr. PM would report findings and offers solutions (adding human capital, hiring outside contractors, etc.)
  • Reviews project activity reports and other performance data to measure project productivity and percent completion to determine areas requiring cost reduction and procedure improvements.
  • Consults and reviews customer specifications to assure project specifications are compatible with company capabilities and with sales estimates and scope of work as sold.
  • Creates and manages project schedules for both external clients and internal customers to assure timely product or document deliveries.
  • Directs and reviews project designs and changes as they relate to the project and brings any comments or questions back to respective disciplines for resolution. Completes basic electrical and mechanical document reviews for project compliance and consults with department staff on results.
  • Negotiates with customers to approve project designs and changes. Presents and explains proposals, reports, or findings to customers.

Associated Duties

  • Confers with functional areas and production staff to discuss project specifications and or procedures to fulfill customer requirements.
  • Prepares sales estimates for new, rental, and surplus contracts and responds to customer questions as necessary or requested by Sales.
  • Performs administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing procedures, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services as it relates to the project cost work upcoming from sales.
  • Helps to coordinate project activities for service and startup by working with the Service Manager to complete tasks required such as startup, training, site supervision, etc.
  • Supports Sales as needed in project details, schedules, cost estimates, supplier and contractor negotiations, etc.
  • Participates in the company’s business planning strategy and makes recommendations for facilities, human capital, and capital asset expenditures.

Qualifications for Senior Project Manager

Education and/or Experience

B. S. in Engineering or equivalent work experience of a minimum of 10 years in a related water and wastewater treatment industry.

Comprehensive technical knowledge of all company products and services.

Experience in working in a team environment where teamwork and collaboration are essential to complete the work assignments and attain the goals of the organization.

Interpersonal skills and abilities to develop and maintain strong internal and external customer and potential customer relationships.

Demonstrated ability to contribute to the overall business strategy and make recommendations within the scope of position responsibility.

Knowledge and Skill

Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. Full knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics and their applications is required. Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical and electrical processes are required. Knowledge of project scheduling software is required. Also, one must have the ability to use simple power tools, wrenches, testing meters, computers, and PLC understanding. Requires a basic understanding of programming language, general water treatment equipment, and operation and its processes.

Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

Personal computer, Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with controls programming and troubleshooting, AutoCAD, Solid Works CAD, Pro E, etc.

The technology used in this position may include Pressure Filters, RO Systems, Waste Water Clarification, UF Systems, Pumps, Controls, Instruments, Valves, etc. within the water/wastewater treatment industry.

Familiar with computer-aided design software such as Autodesk AutoCAD software; Solid Works CAD; Pro-E CAD software.

Document management software — Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended; Adobe System and most corporate ERP Systems.

Project management software — Autodesk Buzzsaw; Microsoft Project; Primavera Systems software including Gantt charts, etc.

Must operate office equipment, scanner and/or printer, and personal computer.

May stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift frequently from 4 to 6 hours each day.

May be required to carry or move equipment or parts in excess of 50 lbs. with the assistance of a lifting device.

Work requires close vision.

May be required to travel 15-25% of the time per month.

May travel outside the US or to international destinations for 3 or more days per month.

Budget Responsibility

Direct responsibility for the expense budget of the department and human and equipment capital recommendations. The amount of spending responsibility will vary each year per budget and forecast plans.
